I am happy to mix your song and help you finishing it for release! :) I want you to receive the best-sounding result possible and at the same time make the mixing process as smooth as possible. Therefore, I kindly ask you to follow the following four steps:
You haven't recorded your song yet? Great! I have some useful tips for you when it comes to arranging the studio version of your song and how to ideally record different elements of your song!
You have recorded already? Please make sure that your recordings fullfil some general technical requirements that you can find in the following:
Technical requirements
Audio resolution: Always record in WAV format! Minimum resolution: 44.1 kHz sample rate, 16-bit depth. My recommendation for audio production: 48 kHz sample rate, 24-bit depth, or even 32-bit (float) if possible. When exporting your tracks, make sure to use the same resolution as you recorded them in
Recording Volume: Ensure your recorded signal falls within the range of -18 to -8 dBFS, with peak levels no higher than -6 dBFS. If your levels reach 0 dBFS, your recording will start to clip and become irreversibly distorted
Please send me your tracks in WAV format, ensuring they are exported in the same audio resolution in which they were recorded (Ideally: 44.1 or 48 kHz sample rate and 24-bit depth (or higher), see Technical requirements).
Maintain consistent export ranges for all your tracks. This means all tracks start and stop at the exactly same position and have identical lengths, even if it means your are mainly exporting silence.
Each track should begin and end with a brief period of silence. Ideally, add one bar of silence at the beginning and start your song in the second bar.
Please name your WAV files appropriately, so I can easily identify their contents. A suitable naming convention might look like this: Lead_Vocals.wav, Acoustic_Guitar.wav, DI_Bass.wav, etc.
Stems: If sending stems for mixing, choose your grouping into stems carefully. I recommend to send the most important track (often the lead vocals) as an isolated track. A typical grouping into six stems could be: 1) Lead Vocals, 2) Backing Vocals, 3) Drums, 4) Bass, 5) Guitars, 6) Keys
